Jeanette Barnes
Born in Lancashire, Jeanette Barnes is a London based artist known for her large expressive charcoal drawings.
Recent works have been based on the urban developments being undertaken in London. Depicting the passage of time, and not just one moment, Jeanette's work acts as a diary of events over the weeks and months she visits the sites to sketch. Her final images are composed of layers of ideas, experiences and the most interesting aspects of her real-time sketches. Using the movement of people and vehicles as a metaphor for the energy within the city, Jeanette seeks to explore the relationship between the built environment and the people who inhabit it. The resulting artwork tends to be large to enable the viewer to have a more personal experience with the drawing.
I really like Jeanette's artwork, it is so expressive and detailed, yet at the same time feels so free. The more you look at the images the more you see, hidden layers of the drawings help them come to life, as if you are witnessing the movements through time yourself.
